It’s a frequent occurrence to see foreign artists who visit South Sudan to perform get showered with pounds and dollars while on stage yet our people do not even love paying to watch our own local artists perform. The most recent occurrence of this was during the performance of Uganda’s famous female recording artist and performer Lydia Jazmine’s show at Geico Hotel in commemoration of South Sudan’s tenth Independence Day anniversary where music fans showered the You and Me singer with thousands of pounds and dollars which she proudly flaunts on her social media handle captioning it as a challenge because other artists who visit South Sudan also get the same treat.
What exactly is behind this occurrence anyway what are our people trying to portray to the World? That we are so generous to visiting foreign artists and good at ignoring our own? South Sudan has a lot of artists doing incredible music with lyrics that are easily understandable but once they announce any performance very few people tend to turn up for their shows and on-stage showering with cash is either little or not at all there for reasons, I cannot explain but maybe those involve knows better.
One thing we need to understand is that no one is jealous about foreign artist performing in South Sudan but charity begins at home good music needs support, if we do not support our home industry then no one will do it for us we will keep screaming the names of foreign artists whose lyrics we barely understand, let us use the same energy we use to shower foreign artists to also shower our very own so that they can raise the finance needed to start shooting the classic expensive videos we love to watch and also pay for better production qualities we love to listen to and enjoy so that they can also stand up and raise our flag across the World with pride. Nothing is better than seeing our artist represent us in other countries and that can only happen if we back them well from home through attending their shows and buying their contents on digital platforms as well as streaming their contents on YouTube. If I may ask how many of you have subscribed to the YouTube channels of Dynamic, Silver X, WJ De King, Mr. Lengs, HardLife Avenue and many other artists from South Sudan let alone buying Ana Yau Bi Arif Album released by HardLife Avenue Stars?
Music in the current state needs more backing from fans in all ways beneficial to artists so that they can make us proud. It is OK showering foreign artists with pounds and dollars since its what we like so much and it’s also our individual cash that we shower them with but can we also extend that same energy and favor to our local artists across South Sudan?
Amazing
