I am a refugee.
Sometimes, that title gets lost in the sounds of day to day life. 🗣
Over the past year, I’ve reflected a lot on my family’s escape from South Sudan 🇸🇸 to Congo 🇨🇩 to Uganda 🇺🇬 to Netherlands 🇳🇱 and ultimately to Canada 🇨🇦 .
Being surrounded by friends and family that are also refugees and then nearly losing a friend to deportation when she sought refuge here in Canada really put things into perspective about how difficult it is when conflicts make it unbearable for people to live in their own homes. 🙏🏾
Through their stories and mine, I’ve seen first hand how simple opportunities, acts of kindness and community support can drastically change the life of someone escaping horrors somewhere in the world. 🌱
If there’s anything I could ask of you today, it’s to continue to show kindness to refugees no matter where they are from. ⭐️
Love you all! 💕
