NyanDinka
By Boka Jr.
Beautiful are girls of South Sudan
But dowries can make you run
There is a Girl of Apuk
Interesting like a Book
She doesn't go to night parties
Since teen age, even in her twenties
Walking so beautifully slow
with her white eyes like snow
And her bright smiles
attract people from miles
Tall like giraffe
Size eight with curve
We greeted her hello
But she told us to follow
And meet her at their compound
But I almost painted to ground
How could we walk to unknown place?
Maybe we shall go by God's Grace
On a cloudy day
We had to pray
And dressed for visitation
Not sure of the situation
But we were not hopeless
Though no muscles, and armless
We were not going for a war
It was only a love tour
We reached the house she showed us
Breathing hard and ready to ask
But please wait
When we stood at their gate
She came to tell us welcome
"Here are drinks, have some"
She kindly said
Respect she paid
Sitting with a friend Achuil
Ready to converse and chill
In a decorated room
Her beauty was all I wanted to zoom
Her words sensitized my soul
But came in a boy called Bol
He asked "do you have any cow?"
I asked him "why and how?"
He seemed to monitor her sister
And didn't care about any visitor
He said "bring 100 cows as dowry."
But Achuil told him not to worry
More than 300 cows we shall bring
At least we have peace to drink
We told him love is the first thing
Achuil asked him "Caping?"
He nodded his head and walked away
Nyan Apuk was idle with nothing to say
I asked her, "How are you darling?"
But suddenly someone was calling
My song was her ringtone
She picked the phone
And said "hello Baba"
"Are you still in Mia Saba?"
"I am coming on the way
and prepare breakfast, don't delay."
Her father said and went off the line
Many things stroke my mine
I looked on the wall
And saw someone old and tall
wearing military uniforms in a picture
I didn't need someone to lecture
I understood the father was a general
I stared at the girl with fear signal
showing that I was afraid
because her father was great
coming on the way with bodyguards
He might start some bloodyfights
I got confused and silent
But Nyan Apuk did something excellent
"Honey don't wait for trouble
go back and make your efforts double"
I didn't know what she meant
But Achuil said it is to "be a man"
Indeed the girl didn't lie
for any one who tries to apply
there must be rejection
But I couldn't control the affection
Conversation didn't perfectly end
But I called my friend
Let's get out
The girl cried loud
We walked away so quick
After days she even felt sick
Wanting me to come back
But the interest I lack
I could not be in courtship
when the father will put me in hardship
Love is not all about cattle
If I don't have it, shouldn't bring battle
I am hardworking and ready
to marry NyanDinka and call her baby
I am not lazy
but too much dowry makes me crazy
A girl shouldn't be sold
she will not have peace till old
Because the man who pays alot
will never even fear God
he will never have any moral thought
but will be beating her like he had bought
Her heart will break, her soul will bleed
And that's the burden of greed
Parents listen to me well
These truths I spell
are the thorns and chains
that bring long pains
and imprison girl's right for life
Don't think she is only a wife
if do you understand
she can be like a man
Wealth is not equal to human beings
In months or years we eat all things
But the gift of life is long
We must make our girls strong
If we need more richness
It shouldn't by greediness
