South Sudan Music Awards announce the recipient of the 2020 Lifetime Achievement Award to Mr. Lomerika whose real name is Enosa Gama Yoani.
The legendary Mr. Lomerika has been a key champion in revolutionizing South Sudan Music through his band-Lomerika Jazz Band which used to tour the whole of Sudan then and attended numerous festivals in Holland, Dubai, Qatar and other African Countries.
He was the only artist in the East African region to share the same stage with the Congolese and lingalla legend Madilu System in Khartoun in the late 80s. His wide-ranging musical work has led to crucial insights into some of the most important and outstanding evolution of bands in the then Sudan and now South Sudan. Being the only band in the whole of the Southern Region, Mr. Lomerika trained and inspired many artists in the industry into learning how to sing and play jazz instruments using his band.
These among others include his own children in famous brands and names of; Lomerikason Bulda, Ezabella and Analy Shisi. He has also shown a tireless commitment to mentorship and encouraging young musicians as an exemplary mentor and role model.
Most of the artists who were with him plays different music instruments ranging from; drums, piano, guitar, French horn, Trombone, clarinet, Saxophone, bassoon, trumpet, baritone among others.
The SSMA Lifetime Achievement Award is annually given to someone who has had a long-term impact on the music industry in the country.
The late Mr. Lomerika has championed music that speak hope and healing to people, practical mentorship, and inspiring musicians through his life.
