My Woman Poem
Nyasunday Mawich Wanteat
When I met you, I knew I had found the one
The one my heart desires and wants
I set it as my goal to get you to like me
You gave that smile, one so innocent
I couldn’t help but notice, I was deeply falling for you,
I told you, but you just laughed it off
Not knowing that the more you laughed,
The more I crazier I got
Oh my!
What is it with you that got me all fixed in your smile,
You got what it takes and all that a man can want in a woman
Days came and went and you still gave me that smile
I was confused but didn’t want to give up
For I knew a day will come and you be mine
Months passed by as I still walk in your shadows, you did not like it but I walked from a distance
A year finally made away and you finally saw that I meant it,
My woman!
You got me where you wanted and I sheepishly loved it
Not because I was a fool but because deep down in my heart
I knew you felt me the same way
But your principles would not allow you to give in easily
We became friends for you did not want us to rush
I did not want that either
But deep down I wanted and needed you close
You finally allowed me to get close enough to kiss you
There I knew my woman was mine
And no one was gonna claim her, she was mine and is mine
Rough was the road but you held my hand and told me to keep going
You said if I ever felt afraid then I could lay on your laps
If I felt restless and want to give up
You told me to hold your hand and keep going
We felt like breaking, leaving and never look back
But you held me and reminded me of who we were
Not just lovers but companions who are there to get it through
We made love more than memories but still we did not forget our target
The day you told me we were pregnant,
I could hold not my tears back for it was immense and genuine
I had waited for that moment for so long
And here today they all look at us
As if we came from Mars itself
Each passing day I count till now we are almost there
To give birth to our blessing, thank you my woman for making me the man I am babe
Be it a girl or boy, they will emulate your strong character for I would love to see the type of woman’s character in my children
Thanks to my woman!
